Titans prepared for AFL Legacy Games by throwing back to original Oilers

The Hall of Fame Game will be held on this Sunady and marks the beginning of the “AFL Legacy Games”. There will be totally 16 games to be played during the 2009 season in commemoration of the 50th anniversary celebration of the inaugural season of the American Football League.

The Tennessee Titans will play with the Buffalo Bills in Canton, Ohio. They planned to throw back by breaking out helmets worn by the Houston Oilers in 1960. The Oilers moved from Houston to Tennessee in 1997, and then became the Titans in 1999.

The Houston Oilers were champions of the first and second AFL seasons in 1960 and 1961. Hall of Famer George Blanda was then a quarterback of the Oilers. The Buffalo Bills won championships in 1964 and 1965, becoming one of the only two teams who were two-time champions of the AFL beside the Houston Oilers.
