Ducks RW Selanne became the 18th to score 600 goals

There have been only seventeen players in NHL history to score 600 scores before Teemu Selanne also reached the milestone on Sunday night and he also became the third European-born players to make it. That accomplishment even overshadowed the Anaheim Ducks’ 5-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.

Finnish countryman Jari Kurri (601) and the Czech Republic’s Jaromir Jagr (646) were the only other two European-born players in the 600-goal club, and Jagr, Brendan Shanahan, and Joe Sakic were the only other three to reach the milestone in the last four seasons.

“I guess that was the easiest I’ve had in a while,” Selanne said. “I’ve had a lot of chances the last three games, but nothing went in. Then you get one of those. It’s amazing the way my teammates have been feeding me the puck. I think they wanted this more than I did. Obviously, it’s a great feeling, and I don’t have to think about it anymore.”

The 39-year-old Selanne thus became a main contributor to Ducks’ victory. However, when he made his 500th goal on Nov. 22, 2006, his second year of playing hockey in Ducks jerseys, the team lost the game 3-2 to the Avalanche.
