Cardinals TE Patrick tested positive for the drug Adderall, facing suspension

Arizona Cardinals tight end Ben Patrick is suspended for four games, because, according to his agent Kevin Omell, he tested positive for the drug Adderall, an amphetamine.

Omell told reporters that Patrick tested positive for banned substance because he took a kind of pill to keep him awake while driving back from Flagstaff. The pill came from a friend who took it for staying up late studying.

"It was a completely honest mistake and he's really remorseful," Omell said.

Patrick was drafted by the Cardinals as seventh-round pick in 2007. He caught a touchdown pass in Arizona's Super Bowl loss to Pittsburgh and 11 passes for 104 yards in the regular season last year. He was also planning to compete for the starting job in training camp, and now he could not take part in games until Oct. 18 when the team will play in Seattle.
